Magia dell' Opera

The collection

The collection of books “Magia dell’Opera”© (The Magic of Opera) was originally developed as educational material of the course bearing the same name that the Association holds every year to guide grammar school teachers and children at the discovery of the world of opera. Thanks to the partnership with Curci Editore, that caters for the publication and commercial distribution, the books are now also available in bookshops and reach a broader audience.

The  collection is formed by an introductory book: - Alla scoperta del Melodramma - Il Teatro e le sue storie – (The discovery of the melodrama – The theatre and its tales) that illustrates the history of opera and of its major composers from the beginning to the early Twentieth Century and the articulated mix of artistic and technical professions involved in the production of performances, and by a series of monographic books on the main masterpieces of the great operatic repertoire, such as Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Carmen, La Traviata, L’Elisir d’amore, Don Giovanni, Falstaff.

Inspired by the principles of “active” education, the books feature a playful approach outlining a participatory path along which the children enjoy “playing the opera game” and learn through their natural involvement in it: they became familiar with the characters, discover the plot and the libretto and can amuse themselves by staging an opera and sing selected parts of it. Each book has a CD annexed that allows the children to hear excerpts of recorded parts of the opera and learn easily to sing through subsequent steps, from rhythmic reading to choral singing.
